From UACT President Sheila Stocks-Smith: As the city’s education liaison, I provided advice and counsel to the mayor and municipal leaders on educational priorities; developed and supported partnerships between city departments, schools and community groups; represented the mayor’s office on national, state and local committees; developed and managed major education initiatives; wrote and managed grants; cultivated strong relationships with community leaders; and studied and tracked education-related legislation, policies, programs and best practices.

Sheila Stocks-Smith has dedicated her entire career to working with others to impact positive social change. She has forty years of experience in nonprofit and public sector leadership and management, public policy, advocacy and politics. Through this work, Sheila has developed a broad professional and community network and a deep knowledge of organizational/institutional systems, social policy and public service. With UAct, Sheila is directing her passion and expertise toward the promotion and support of community and economic development in Springfield’s urban core.
