UAct is proud to continue its support for Doc Talk which has been redesigned from an earlier version supported by the Urban Action Network in 2019 where DeAndre Neal served as the Project Coordinator. Doc Talk 2024 and beyond is being conducted by PHASE 217, Mr. Neal’s 501©3 organization, at Union Baptist Church in East Springfield where members of the congregation and area residents gather monthly with SIU medical residents and attending physicians in groups of 20-30 participants. The two-hour sessions cover introductory topics that affect quality healthcare delivery such as implicit bias and social determinants of health followed by substantial community-led discussion and a short doctor-led discussion of a specific health topic. During the two-hour session, all participants enjoy a healthy meal prepared by the culinary staff at Union Baptist Church.
